Develop Useful Beliefs

If we refuse to believe a particular thing, like... that the world is round, then there's no way that we would ever want to go sailing or get on a plane for fear we'd fall or fly off the edge, never to return.

A number of years ago, I was taught a very important lesson.

It was to develop beliefs that were "useful." instead of right. If a viewpoint I had on a topic didn't allow me to experience all that I could from a situation, then it was keeping me "closed minded." Subsequently, I had taught myself, through much trial and error, to be AWARE of that.

Awareness alone can often be a great tonic, can't it?

More specifically, I recently have been getting a zombie-like feeling in my head... dizziness, tiredness, anxiety. I can hardly move my neck. I could fall sleep standing up at any time of day.

My first thought? Go to the chiropractor. Then, go to a regular doctor. Then I thought. "I know how doctors think. He's going to prescribe anxiety meds. How can I, Mike Brescia, take those. I can overcome any anxiety!!"

Knowing (believing) that, I instantly thought {trained to come up with alternative answers} it's got to be the schedule I've been putting in. I wonder if it's just a lack of movement. Let's believe THAT first.

So I pulled out the Tae-Bo tape and for a few days straight I kicked and punched and hollered and... started to feel more like myself again. Cool. I went to bed at a decent hour. And pretty quickly I was back to normal.

The lesson I learn again and again is that I'm only human, and if I push too hard, my mind and body will rebel against it. Balance is the state I want to have. Without your health you have nothing.

It took QUITE a while to feel the effects of the overworking. That's why, I guess, that my immediate thoughts did not go to, "I'm over doing it." The initial evidence told me that it had nothing to do with my schedule. But an openness to what WASN'T obvious led me to the REAL answer.

Too often we go with our first thought for the sake of expedience. Everyday life is chock full of these contradictory situations. We simply MUST be open to new possibilities. Things are rarely what they seem.

Slow down for a minute.

Going even just 10 miles an hour in the wrong direction can have dire consequences.

And the truth is, we OFTEN are going in the wrong directions. Be AWARE of what's going on around you and the truth will reveal itself to you more often and more quickly than you can imagine.

Open your eyes, your ears, your mind and your heart. Our first impressions often fool us. Question your first answer. New directions may come to you.

If you're trying to develop your intuitive abilities or you've LEARNED to trust your first answers, try the first answer. But I know psychics who, when pressed for time, make lots of mistakes in their judgments.

Again, balance and openness to the OTHER right answer is the key.
